If a dealer claims to have one particular sword or another, find out if there are any identifying marks on the real sword - if the one that you are considering doesn't have those marks, then it's not real.





Unfortunately, there are far too many fake pirate swords being sold as authentic ones. This is bad news for any buyer that has spent more than $200 on a sword they thought was real. Ask a dealer for a certificate of authenticity, have the sword appraised, and always have some kind of refund policy written on paper. There are many great reasons why you would want to own a real pirate sword. This is particularly why purchasing a fake sword is so heart breaking.
