Pirate Swords and Other Swords Do They Exist

Are there any authentic pirate swords left in the world? This is a really good question that may not have a concrete answer. Aside from those swords that are currently inside of museum showcases, a lot of dealers claim to sell authentic swords.

The problem is that most of these swords aren't authentic at all. In fact, some of them are simple replicas that aren't even good replicas. The other problem is that some truly authentic swords have been used as movie props. This might be good news for movie buffs, but it isn't great news for the true sword collector.

What's wrong with pirate swords that were used in films? Well, Hollywood has a way of altering everything that is used as a prop. So, a movie set sword may have an altered handle or a blade that doesn't actually cut. If you are going to buy a sword from a set, make sure to ask about all of those little details that are so very important. Also, take the time to really look at the sword you are going to buy. In fact, look very closely at any sword that you are thinking about purchasing.

If a sword truly is one of the very few authentic pirate swords in the world, then it won't be perfect. Any dealer that claims to sell authentic swords that aren't nicked is a dealer that is simply trying to take your money. Since a pirate sword was probably used in a fight of some sort, it is only natural that it will have a few scars. If a dealer claims to have one particular sword or another, find out if there are any identifying marks on the real sword - if the one that you are considering doesn't have those marks, then it's not real.

Unfortunately, there are far too many fake pirate swords being sold as authentic ones. This is bad news for any buyer that has spent more than $200 on a sword they thought was real. Ask a dealer for a certificate of authenticity, have the sword appraised, and always have some kind of refund policy written on paper. There are many great reasons why you would want to own a real pirate sword. This is particularly why purchasing a fake sword is so heart breaking. Make sure to do your research, heed the advice listed above, and always double check the authenticity of that sword.
